YOU CAN START SMALL

You do not have to make a decision about all of it to make a decision

The licence covers a defined slice, and the slice is yours to draw. Plenty of firms start with one system they are entirely comfortable licensing, see how it goes, and revisit the rest afterwards.

HOW A NARROW START RUNS

Same process, smaller boundary

  1. 01

    Six questions

What exists, roughly. You can say up front that you only want to discuss part of it.

  2. 02

    Draw the boundary

We agree the slice before anything is reviewed. What is outside it is not discussed further.

  3. 03

    Review and price that slice

We look before pricing, as always. The number reflects what is in scope.

  4. 04

    Papered and paid

Agreed within a week, paid Net 30 to 60 once the data is approved, shared, and anonymized.

WHY A SUBSET WORKS

Starting narrow costs you less than you would think

  • A defined slice is the normal structure anyway. The licence was always going to name what it covers rather than sweep everything up.
  • You learn how the process actually runs before committing anything you feel protective of.
  • A narrow first scope still produces a real number. It is priced on what is in it, not penalised for what is not.
  • There is no obligation to extend. Deciding once does not commit you to deciding the same way again.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SCOPE

What firms ask about starting narrow

Is a small scope worth your time?

Usually yes. Deals land between $100K and $2M and reasoning density matters more than breadth. A narrow, rich slice can price well.

Are we committing to more later?

No. The licence covers what it covers. Extending is a separate decision you are free not to make.

Can we exclude specific clients or matters?

Yes. What is not in scope is not licensed, and that is written in before signature.

Does a narrow start slow anything down?

If anything it speeds it up, because the review is smaller. Terms are still papered within a week of the first conversation.
